Nixon And The Rob Machado Seaside Pro Junior Billboard

A surfing billboard is nothing new to the San Diego area, but this one by the good folks of Nixon sure is cool. The billboard is located about ¼ mile north on PCH of the surfing spot Swamis in Encinitas, California and is advertising the Rob Machado Seaside Pro Junior April 22-23 2011.

The other billboards we have seen would be by Coors Light and Hurley. Coors Light did one of Andy Irons which had him doing a back side snap with his initials A.I. and one of Donavon Frankenreiter doing a front side carve and Hurley’s billboard was their H logo with a shot of a girl modeling.

So be sure to come down and check out all the surfing action at Seaside where you can meet Rob Machado and witness the best surfers of the next generation.

How Do You Spot A Tourist At 7 In The Morning

7am this morning in Oceanside surfers were making their way out to the surf. Full suits, gloves, hoods, and booties on. Then all of a sudden these two kids walk up with smiles on their faces like they just entered Disneyland. Boogie Boards in hand they go straight in. No testing the water to see how cold it is, just charging it as if it was bath water.

Taylor Knox Falls Off The Horse

Shooting photos isn’t an easy task for the photographer nor the surfer especially when you are shooting water photos. For every good water shot you see their are most likely 10 throw-aways (meaning no good; go ahead and hit the delete button). Here you have Taylor Knox who has shot with pretty much every surf photographer in the world go up to hit the lip and all of a sudden, BOOM he slips and his surfboard goes flying right towards the photographer and his camera. What does Taylor do, get’s right back up and pulls into this nice little tube and get’s a good looking photo! So as you can see it’s not all fun and games for these guys when they are working for that perfect shot.

Kolohe Andino Sheds Tears In HB

What a day for San Clemente surfer Kolohe Andino. Today at the Vans Pier Classic Kolohe made history for himself as he made it to two finals, the junior pro and the 4* pro. Taking out surfing veterans Taylor Knox, Adriano De Souza, and Damien Hobgood in the final as well as everyone else. As he was being carried out of the water he placed his hand over his face to cover the tears, but knew there was no holding them back and went in like a champion with arms raised high, tears and all.

Elvis Presley Joins Kolohe

Today we ran into Mr. Kolohe Andino as he was making his way towards his car and he was nice enough to let us take his picture. I am sure there have been many musicians painted on surfers surfboards, but the one that comes to our mind right now is the one Rob Machado had of Jimmy Hendrix on the top of his surfboard. This was specifically done for a photo shoot in Isla Natividad with photographer Mike Balzer which ended up on the cover of Surfing Mag. Here Kolohe shows us Elvis Presley painted on the bottom of his board. We should of asked him who painted it and why he chose Elvis. Next time we run into him, we will ask.
