3 Men Arrested In Drug Smuggling – Carlsbad

6:30 this morning as we we’re doing our normal surf check after are stop off at the local coffee shop we came upon a scene of news reporters on the beach between Warm Waters and Tamarack in Carlsbad. Our first thoughts we’re human trafficking. If this was the case why had they chosen Carlsbad to beach themselves being this is close to 50 miles north of the border.

Around 1:30 a.m. 3 men; Mexican national, US citizen and a Nicaraguan national we’re arrested for smuggling 19 bundles (1,500 pounds) of marijuana valued over $800,000.00. The border patrol was waiting on the shore where they spotted the ponga boat approaching the coastline. There were two men in the boat and one man was waiting in the getaway car.

The boat

The truck in the middle was initially trying to tow the boat up the beach, but then got stuck and another truck was sent in to tow both the truck and the boat ashore

These are the fuel tanks found on board the boat. With that much fuel on board these guys we’re planning a long trip north

News reporter vans fighting for position

Being it was 6:30 in the morning when we got onto the scene as this news team had been there for over an hour. We we’re thinking do they just sit at the news station waiting for a story to break and then race out to cover it or do they get to go home and go from there

Teenage Boy Buried Alive in Newport Beach

Skip Snead former editor of Surfing Magazine and now the owner of Ghetto Juice Magazine films horrific video footage of a California teen Matt Mina who is buried alive in the sand.

Matt 17 was with his friends in Newport Beach digging tunnels where they would meet together, but when Matt climbed into his hole 6ft deep the sand collapsed onto him.

“I thought I was going to die. I was just really scared and I didn’t know if anyone could hear me when I was screaming for help. I threw my head around, trying to make some room because my arms were kind of behind me. I pretty much made some wiggle room where I had a little pocket of air.” – Matt Mina

Rescuers finally reached Matt after 30 minutes where Matt recalls “I heard people, but I was fading in and out as I was kind of unconscious underneath the sand.”

“I was frantically looking, making sure my kid wasn’t the one buried in the sand. I was pretty scared, and when I found out it wasn’t my son, I just let the camera roll.” – Skip Snead

Pole Dancing At The Nike US Open Of Surfing

Just when you think you have seen it all, you haven’t! So there we are walking along the beach and we see this huge crowd of people in a large circle. From the outside all we can see it this large silver pole. We make our way into the inner circle and the two finalist of a pole dancing, dance-off is on. On the left is Sally “I don’t know how to do this” Slammers and on the right is Peter “I don’t stuff my underwear with socks” Rocker. The crowd was going crazy, but in the end Sally got the most cheers from the crowd and was clarified the dance-off champion. We must admit we like Peter’s patriotic choice of underroos.

Cardiff Kook Get’s Attacked By A Large Pterodactyl Dinosaur

This just topped all of the attacks onto the Cardiff Kook statue in Cardiff by the Sea. A pre-historic setting with a large pterodactyl pterosaurs on the shoulders of the Cardiff Kook with some dinosaurs on the ground. When driving south on the 101 we first noticed the sign on the outside wall which at first glance looks just like the Converse logo which reads; Cardiff All Star Kook Taylor. Has Converse funded the $$$$ for this project?

Update: Tuesday August 16, 2011 today the local news stated it cost the city over $1,200 to remove the pre-historic dinosaur setting. They also mentioned that the city did NOT tell the police to be more on the look out in the future (the city is making more $ on the statue when it’s dressed up compared to when it’s not). Local business’s in Cardiff such as VG Donuts, Besta-wan Pizza and Beach City Burrito were very happy as there sales were up 30% over the weekend due to people coming out to see the Cardiff Kook’s newest attire. So what will be next for the Cardiff Kook, only time will tell, but it’s going to be hard to beat the pterodactyl.
