We we’re pleased to have met award winning nature photographer Thomas Mangelsen this past Saturday evening at the Images of Nature Gallery where he was from 6-9pm signing books, autographs and answering any questions. We arrived around 6:30 and there we’re probably close to 100 people their as more kept coming through out the evening.
Once we got into the line we decided to ask him one question. “Hi Tom. What is your take on film versus digital knowing you have gone 100% digital now for the past 5 years”. His reply was something on the note “It just came down to convenience. Say if I am going to a place like Kenya I don’t need to bring a 100 rolls of film with me. Also the versatile of having to control the ISO right then in there as if I am shooting in a low-light situation I have that opportunity to bump it up. Same goes with my panoramic cameras I am no longer using them as the digital camera is much more sharp and I am having the images stitched together”.
We then thanked Tom for his time and asked him for his signature. “To Surf Images Surfs Up! Best Wishes Tom Mangelsen 2011″

Scotty Stopnick was the first alternate to the September 2011 Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational presented by Vans but was not able to get in as every participate showed up. While he was there we fired off a few photos of him.

Surfing action and lifestyle photos of Joel Tudor surfing on a mid length board during that big swell are now live on his page.
Well we had to get the masters autograph on September 1, 2011 as it was his movie, Astroboys Wave Warriors 3 that got us involved into surf photography. If we had not seen that movie we’d probably be not living a much excited life. Wave Warriors 3 was the turning point that made us want to be a surfing photographer. In everyone’s life there is something or someone that does, says, see’s, or hears something that makes them say that is it, and for us it was this movie. We say GO WATCH it, but keep in mind when we watched if for our first time we we’re in junior high, 23 years ago. So I am thinking you will not get the same feeling as surfing has for surely evolved over those years, but heck go watch it anyways.
Herbie could be on Wave Warriors 89 by now.
Showing the Joel Tudor posse on the beach how to do it. (Joel and his male groupies we’re watching from the shore).
How could we not get this? “That was the logo for the Huntington Pud group I was in” Herbie said”.
