Pole Dancing At The Nike US Open Of Surfing

Just when you think you have seen it all, you haven’t! So there we are walking along the beach and we see this huge crowd of people in a large circle. From the outside all we can see it this large silver pole. We make our way into the inner circle and the two finalist of a pole dancing, dance-off is on. On the left is Sally “I don’t know how to do this” Slammers and on the right is Peter “I don’t stuff my underwear with socks” Rocker. The crowd was going crazy, but in the end Sally got the most cheers from the crowd and was clarified the dance-off champion. We must admit we like Peter’s patriotic choice of underroos.

Rob Machado and Kolohe Andino Surfing Action Photos From Nike US Open

We have just finished uploading surfing action and lifestyle photos of Rob Machado and Kolohe Andino from the 2011 Nike US Open of Surfing presented by Hurley and Converse contest in Huntington Beach.

Rob Machado surfing in the Hurley trials where hand picked surfers have to compete against one and other to make it as a wild card into the Hurley Pro WCT at Lowers.

Kolohe sporting the white and pink surfboard. We got one really nice water shot sequence of Kolohe doing a frontside air as well as many photos taken from land where we must admit he did have many girls yelling for him (“from what we personally saw” we would say Kelly Slater 1st, Rob Machado 2nd, Kolohe 3rd (he get’s all the teeny boppers) and a tie between Dane Reynolds and Julian Wilson for 4th) . We know you can tell a lot by a surfers popularity when you see how many people come running up to them once they exit the water.

Rob Machado – Sal Masekela – Kolohe Andino “Nike US Open of Surfing”

We have just uploaded images of Rob and Kolohe from the Nike US Open of Surfing on August 07,2011.

Rob Machado and long-time friend Sal Masekela making there way into shore from surfing in the WPS (World Pro Surfers) All Star Expression Session. Rob had Sal go on the inside of him to block from the crowd of fans that was waiting to erupt onto them.

Kolohe Andino surfing in the semi-final against Yadin Nicol’s. Kolohe ended with a score of 12.87 to Yadin’s 13.44. Earlier in the day Kolohe beat out one of his favorite surfers Dane Reynolds in a man on man heat (the quarters). Not a bad showing for a 17-year old.

Joel Tudor Goes Surfing In 2009

What is up with the Joel Tudor fix lately? Well, we are uploading images in order right now as Joel is currently up. Other surfers we have coming up to begin uploading are Kolohe Andino and Rob Machado from this years 2011 Nike US Open of Surfing presented by Hurley and Converse. Then once all the Joel images are finished (2010 / 2011) we will start on Donavon Frankenreiter, Dane Reynolds, Bruce Irons, Mick Fanning and Taj Burrow. In the mean time here are a few shots of Joel from the ’09 season.

You never know who or what you will run into at Malibu, but on this day Joel found long time friend Chris Malloy (red man and beer in hiding) checking the surf. Chris ended up joining Joel in the water as Chris surfed a mid length board.

A Japan magazine wanted a photo (lifestyle) of Joel for the cover of there magazine and Joel had this idea as he wanted this for the cover. It did not make it, but instead a photo of him standing in his backyard with a longboard did. That is Joel’s son Tosh next to him as Tosh is very involved with Jijitsu classes. (following in dads footsteps)

Photographer Jack English recalls this session. “The waves had been going off in La Jolla and Joel was getting these big shacks at Big Rock, but I had just sold my water housings and still had not got my new ones yet. I was freaking because Big Rock was going off and I love to shoot there from the water, but on this day I was stuck on the land. I still got a few cool shots. What I learned in the future do not sell my housings until I have my new one ready that way I won’t miss any water shot days.”

Joel surfing a finless wooden surfboard that he shaped. Is this what Herbie meant by the “side slip boogie”?

Joel and his longboard posse at the July 2009 Corona Noseriding Invitational in conjunction with the Hurley US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach. In the pic there is Harrison Roach, Christian Wach, Christian Fletcher, Herbie Fletcher, Joel Tudor, Alex Knost and two others that we don’t know the names of.

Welcome To The Nike US Open Of Surfing

Today was our first day at the Nike US Open of Surfing presented by Hurley and Converse. We began the day shooting water photos in the first five heats. The heats consisted of surfers Kelly Slater, Kolohe Andino, Julian Wilson, Dane Reynolds, and so on. Then we ran around and took happy snaps and finished the day shooting land photos. Very tired now and having a vodka cranberry. We will see you tomorrow…

“Kolohe can I have a hug” yells out a screaming fan. “I already gave you one” replies Kolohe. “I know, but I want another one”. What happened to giving out autographs or posing for a photo?

Kelly Slater out for war!
