Surfing Magazine Shuts Down

Surfing magazine has officially shut down their print publication and their big brother Surfer magazine is now down to 8 issues a year (down 2 issues a year from last year and 4 from the previous years).

“We’re sorry, but Surfing is unavailable because it has ceased publication of a print edition.” – Magazine Agent

Joel Tudor Just Pissed On Surfing Magazine

… but then again Surfer and Surfing are both owned by the same company so I guess you can say he pissed on the parents as well!

“If you are a longboarder — do not support @surfingmagazine // since I was grommet these guys have consistently held up the standard started by Larry Moore — that longboarding was not a legitamite form of wave riding and didn’t belong in the pages of their mag! They still hold that standard today and have told my boss @vans this on a many of occasions! Funny part is I blasted them via @sunnygarcia and now they are trying to back pedal!!!! – if you think I’m kidding ….. Ask yourself one question … When was the last time you saw a pic of a longboarder in surfing ???? Art via @porous_walker” – Joel Tudor

Peter Taras No Longer Photo Editor At Surfing Magazine

We just got off the phone with our good buddy Peter Taras and he has confirmed he is no longer the photo editor at Surfing Magazine, but Jimmy Wilson (former assistant photo editor) is taking over. Peter will now oversea all website and social media aspects for their website.

Jimmy gave Peter a nice farewell package – Peter landing this months cover shot of Kolohe Andino surfing on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier. The 50ft American flag provided by the Ten group.

Hey wait a minute Mr. Taras – did you get the whole “flag” idea from our shoot with Scotty Stopnik?

“Six Surfers We Want On Tour” – Surfing Magazine

“Six Surfers We Want On Tour In 2016” – Surfing magazine / Beau Flemister

six-surfers-we-want-on-tour-in-2016

Carlos Munoz
Mason Ho
Conner Coffin
Evan Geiselman
Ezekiel Lau
Ryan Callinan

When will their be another surfing freak? When will we see another Tom Curren, Taylor Knox, Rob Machado, Mick Fanning, Taj Burrow, Andy Irons, etc..

To make the world tour it’s no easy task, nor is it hard (for a select few who have made it while still in their teens) but to stay on tour is the hardest part!

So out of the six surfers chosen by Surfing mag we have noticed their are no surfing freaks out their really ready to make the world tour – who is the next hopeful, Jack Robinson?

Carlos Munoz – We haven’t seen him surf enough to truly judge him, but it seems he is receiving much attention based on where he is from (Costa Rica), but if he was from USA he might be another face in the crowd.
Mason Ho – Like father like son will do great in the big surf (Pipe and Tahiti) but when it comes to the small stuff we don’t think he has enough flair.
Conner Coffin – A lot of respected surfers (like Brad Gerlach) love Conner and would love to see him make it on the tour. Conner seems to be one of those overhyped Cali surfers similar to a Dillon Perillo (lost in Malibu). Conner doesn’t have enough tricks in the bag and being short doesn’t help.
Evan Geiselman – Gain 20 pounds and you might look good. It just looks weird seeing a grown man surfing with a boys body.
Ezekiel Lau – We have seen Ezekiel surfing for a while when he would come to Lowers for the USA championships or the NSSA’s and we we’re blown away on how much he surfed like AI. Ezekiel is tall and has a build similar to Sunny Garcia (strong). We would love to see this guy on tour!
Ryan Callinan – Who?

Dane Reynolds Half-Turn On The Cover Of Surfing Magazine

We have just received our newest issue of Surfing magazine showing Dane Reynolds on the cover doing somewhat of a grab rail half-turn with spray blowing in the howling wind.

Not impressed being we only expect the best when it’s Dane or is this Surfing mag trying to make Quiksilver happy with clearly showing the Quik logo on the cover?

“I spoke with Dane Reynolds. He told me a swell was headed to Morocco and he was going with Yadin Nicol and Dillon Perillo to film a few last-minute clips for his section in Cluster. Would SURFING be interested in coming along?” – Zander Morton
